The menu is fairly simple, much more well balanced than many of the children experience at home and includes as much locally grown produce as possible.  Parents can contribute food they have grown instead of a small cash contribution.
Menu
Fried cabbage and beans - with tomatoes and onions, served with sweet potatoes
Rice with G-nut (groundnut) sauce
Beans and posho (a stiff maize “porridge”)
On the first day we had rice and g-nut sauce.  If you’ve ever tried cooking rice for 660 people on an open fire, then you’ll not be surprised to learn that it was stodgy, burnt in places and really not that great... But out of all those children’s plates, only one came back with a small amount of food left on it - the rest were licked clean, quite literally in a few cases!
The kitchen staff have since perfected the art of cooking rice in such quantities!!

Lunch is served!
There was HUGE excitement on the first day that lunch was served!  This little girl from the Primary 1 class was the first in line.
The children love their food!  Each term they get through well over 1000 cabbages - their favourite.
